Because after the glitz and glamour of the festivities, we’re all volunteers working for the greatest cause in the world – helping to improve the lives of children. A mission that doesn't end with a change of function, but is an integral part of our lives!
We all know the challenges we face. It's not an easy task, but it's certainly one we can overcome! And I want to use this year to motivate the different levels of our organization, to share our values and the satisfaction and fulfillment that comes from the important work we do. I want to encourage cooperation on initiatives within Europe. We've made a big impact on communities, nations and the world through our work over the decades, but to do the same in the future, we need more voices and more hands working for the well-being of the children in the world. We therefore need to expand our membership!
For the first time in Europe, we are going to organise a Lieutenant-governors Summit for leaders who want to take on the role of Lieutenant-Governor next year (i.e. future Lieutenant-Governors). We are all well aware of the key role lieutenant-governors are performing, but we also know that it takes a great deal of motivation and resources to carry out their task successfully.
We will also organise a European Young Kiwanis Summit in Lisbon for members under the age of 40 who are ready to challenge the status quo and set the base for future membership.
Membership, marketing and communication training sessions for district coordinators are also on the agenda to help us enhance our presence and gain new members.
Last but not least, our 58th European Convention in Akureyri will be the highlight of our year. I can already promise you a complete change of scene! Here's a prelude to your experience in the Far North.
Finally, check the calendar of events regularly to keep abreast of new activities.
My best wishes to you all, and thank you for everything you'll be doing to make Kiwanis bigger and stronger!
Yours sincerely,
Gunnsteinn Björnsson
KI-E President 2024-25
